I enjoyed the article: it’s a good review of some of the things I’ve already been learning from you and your blog – trying to define “dominance”, for example. I like the 3 F’s – friends, forage & freedom xx
Wow. It all makes sense and makes even more sense of why I stopped being a ‘Parelli Nut’. I had been uncomfortable with some of what I witnessed (on their videos and also in actual reality when I attended a Parelli event in the UK) and decided to save my money and ‘cut loose’ from the Savvy Club. I have also been curious and watched other wellknown trainers on tv, and had to turn it off before I started shouting at the tv. With my Exmoor mare I had worked out that she did not need me to be dominant, in fact that would just start a fight that I couldn’t win. I haven’t worked out exactly how to work with her successfully, but that is a lifetime journey with her.
Jet is the same! They are the ones that teach us, no? Read Marthe Kiley Worthington’s Exploding the Myths – there’s some mistakes and whatsit, but the idea of collaborative teaching, the respect given to the mammal student is wonderful!
